Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan reaches new heights of passion and suspense in this thrilling novel that takes readers deep into the California backcountry, where a woman is tormented by visions of a killer。

It starts in her dreams。 Hideous flashes from a nightmare only she can stop。 Images of a murderer stalking the ones she cares about most。。。

Stella Harrison thought she got away from the traumas of her past。 Running the Sunrise Lake resort high in the Sierra Nevada mountains has brought her peace, even though she doesn't truly share her quiet life with anyone。 Not even Sam, the hired handyman that notices everything and always seems to know exactly what she needs。

Stella doesn't know anything about Sam's past, but somehow over the last two years his slow, steady presence has slipped past her defenses。 Still, she knows she can't tell him about her recent premonitions。 So far there's been no murder。 No body。 No way to prove what's about to happen without destroying the life she's built for herself。

But a killer is out there。 And Stella knows that this time she'll do whatever it takes to stop him。

Enjoyed reading this book and wished it was a series。 She could go far with this one。 Interesting storyline in which a woman with the ability to dream of someone’s death which makes this Feehan’s first suspense novel with only a little bit of the paranormal。 Hope for more from her this way。

Had trouble getting into this one。 Out in the Sierra Nevada mountains Stella Harrison takes over managing, then owning fishing/ vacation resort cabins in the wilderness to escape her nightmarish interaction with a serial killer。 But then the nightmares come back and she fears another serial killer is in her midst as her dreams are premonitions of what is to be。 Surrounded by her 'family' of friends, Sam, the handyman, Denver, everyone's favorite doctor and Bruce, who produces beer for the town b Had trouble getting into this one。 Out in the Sierra Nevada mountains Stella Harrison takes over managing, then owning fishing/ vacation resort cabins in the wilderness to escape her nightmarish interaction with a serial killer。 But then the nightmares come back and she fears another serial killer is in her midst as her dreams are premonitions of what is to be。 Surrounded by her 'family' of friends, Sam, the handyman, Denver, everyone's favorite doctor and Bruce, who produces beer for the town bars, Stella feels safe。 But is she? And is the town? And can we trust her 'family'? And of course, can she stop the killer before he kills again? As I said, had trouble with the notion that her dreams predict a serial killer's actions and only she can prevent the attacks。 Pass。 。。。more

This book was such a disappointment。 It was unbelievably boring and repetitive。 I wonder if there was even an editor, it should have been at least 200 pages shorter。 Sadly, I also didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters。

In a departure from her past stories, Murder at Sunrise Lake has only a subtle paranormal storyline。 This intriguing story is a stand alone book, hopefully it will turn into a series as well。 Set in the Sierra Mountains, the story focuses on Stella who runs the local resort and Sam, handyman, mystery man, member of the local Search and Rescue crew and Stella’s secret crush。 Both hold secrets close to their chests allowing a very few into their circle of friends。Stella’s past comes roaring back i In a departure from her past stories, Murder at Sunrise Lake has only a subtle paranormal storyline。 This intriguing story is a stand alone book, hopefully it will turn into a series as well。 Set in the Sierra Mountains, the story focuses on Stella who runs the local resort and Sam, handyman, mystery man, member of the local Search and Rescue crew and Stella’s secret crush。 Both hold secrets close to their chests allowing a very few into their circle of friends。Stella’s past comes roaring back in the form of nightmares predicting death, Sam, who crushes on Stella as well has her back, showing skills hinting heavily of a military background he is unwilling to discuss。 When it becomes clear the nightmares are a clear warning of death that could affect her close knit group of friends, Stella makes the only decision she can, trust in Sam, follow the clues and stop the murders。Ms。 Feehan’s books are known for her deep rooted love of family, blood or chosen and this story follows that path。 The descriptions of the area are brilliant, you see the water, the flora and fauna, you can feel the deep love of nature。 You come to know her friends and hope that she makes this a series so you can find out their stories so subtly tugging at your curiosity throughout the book。The action is more of the mind and the love story is a slow blending of minds and hearts。The bad guys revelation was a total surprise, I was caught totally off guard。As always Ms。 Feehan has woven a storyline to entice her readers with subtle hints on a future meeting all the inhabitants of Sunrise Lake!! Very well done。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is not a good book。 1。 The main couple are dull。 I actually like that the hero is a mix of alpha/beta/stalker, but there is little chemistry between him and the utterly flat heroine。 2。 The murderer is obvious, and the plot pointlessly convoluted。 There’s no real investigation。 The villain is identified by magic。 3。 The book is super Disney。 All the women are unearthly beautiful and talented。 All the (good) men are tall, broad-shouldered, and handsome。 The bad guy is ugly。 4。 THERE ARE TOO This is not a good book。 1。 The main couple are dull。 I actually like that the hero is a mix of alpha/beta/stalker, but there is little chemistry between him and the utterly flat heroine。 2。 The murderer is obvious, and the plot pointlessly convoluted。 There’s no real investigation。 The villain is identified by magic。 3。 The book is super Disney。 All the women are unearthly beautiful and talented。 All the (good) men are tall, broad-shouldered, and handsome。 The bad guy is ugly。 4。 THERE ARE TOO MANY CHARACTERS。 I can’t repeat this enough。 Aside from all being the same woman with a different body type and skill specialization, the info-dump of tragic backstories adds nothing to the plot and screws up the pacing。 5。 The mafia connection is completely unnecessary as it has absolutely nothing to do with character or story development。 It should be noted that this is romantic-suspense with a small paranormal element, and not your typical CF fare。 You’ll be disappointed if you’re looking for scorching hot velvet sheathes。 Sorry。 。。。more

I usually love any book by Christine Feehan but I found myself struggling to stay engaged with this one。 For me there was not enough character development with the main character Stella and even less so with the romantic interest Sam。 I felt like there was not enough development in their relationship also, will we, won't we, should we, should't we and then no real yes we will, just the allusion to yes we did in developing a relationship。 Finally, the who done it part of the story was easy to fig I usually love any book by Christine Feehan but I found myself struggling to stay engaged with this one。 For me there was not enough character development with the main character Stella and even less so with the romantic interest Sam。 I felt like there was not enough development in their relationship also, will we, won't we, should we, should't we and then no real yes we will, just the allusion to yes we did in developing a relationship。 Finally, the who done it part of the story was easy to figure out very early in the book。 。。。more

Excellent Read - Highly RecommendThis book kept you on the edge of your seat。 I literally could not put this book down。 A different type of story from what Christine usually writes。 I can guarantee you will not be disappointed unless she stops with the main characters。 I look forward to reading about the rest of this group of friends。

I am a big fan of Christine Feehan's Dark series, so I was really excited to read this stand alone thriller。 And, overall, it was pretty good。 The premise is wonderful, having someone with Stella's "gift" was a wonderful set up for the book。 I love how Feehan builds her characters they always seem very rounded and real。 What didn't work for me was the suspense part。 In my opinion, the pace was too slow for a thriller, part of what I like about those is that you feel like the story is always raci I am a big fan of Christine Feehan's Dark series, so I was really excited to read this stand alone thriller。 And, overall, it was pretty good。 The premise is wonderful, having someone with Stella's "gift" was a wonderful set up for the book。 I love how Feehan builds her characters they always seem very rounded and real。 What didn't work for me was the suspense part。 In my opinion, the pace was too slow for a thriller, part of what I like about those is that you feel like the story is always racing。 I did enjoy the characters, but there was just too much of everything else to support the thriller part of the book, if that makes sense。 If Stella and Sam had been alone trying to figure the mystery out, I feel like it would have been more mysterious and faster paced, but bringing in such a big supporting cast (even really fun characters) diluted the killers part in the story。 Still, a fun read, a worth taking a chance on。 。。。more

Excellent Murder Mystery! This book was so good!! I had given up Christine a long time ago, but when I saw this new one I was really intrigued。 So I thought what the heck, one more try。 Nope。 I should have left well enough alone。 The same things that irked the living daylights out of me then, irked the living daylights out of me now。 I liked Stella and Sam。 What I didn't like was the piles of information dumps。 She could have removed a quarter, possibly more, of the book regarding the friends。 I didn't need to know their entire life stories, wh I had given up Christine a long time ago, but when I saw this new one I was really intrigued。 So I thought what the heck, one more try。 Nope。 I should have left well enough alone。 The same things that irked the living daylights out of me then, irked the living daylights out of me now。 I liked Stella and Sam。 What I didn't like was the piles of information dumps。 She could have removed a quarter, possibly more, of the book regarding the friends。 I didn't need to know their entire life stories, what their houses looked like, all about their pets, etc。 They were not the main character, but often times that was forgotten with as much info as Feehan gave on them。 For a standalone, she sure made sure she built up that group of friends。 Then there was the repetitiveness。 How many times do I need to read that Sam is quiet? Inexpressive? Wears a mask? Is lethal? Dangerous? Yada。 Yada。 How many times do I need to read how loyal the friends are? How they all have secrets in their pasts? Are gorgeous? Smart? Yada。 Yada。 And a bunch of other unnecessary details that were pounded in。 I do like that Sam was different from Feehan's other heroes。 While he was alpha and dangerous, he was gentle and patient with Stella。 He didn't act overbearing, wasn't a douchecanoe。 He didn't scream I am man, hear me roar。 He treated Stella like an equal, while making sure she knew he valued everything about her。 I liked that Feehan did a good job developing his character。 I really liked Stella's visions。 I thought it was unique that she could see a serial killer planning his his murders。 I really wish we had spent more time on this and less on the other crap。 I wish we had seen Stella more as a child, when she first started having this visions as her father went on a murdering spree。 It would have added so much depth to the book, and to the character。 I liked Stella and Sam as a couple。 I wish we got to see them in more of this setting。 If you read Feehan for the sexy times, you won't get that with this one。 Just a heads up。 I also thought the ending was just kind of meh。 Anyway, other than those couple of things I liked, I was bored out of my mind。 。。。more

DNF - Thank you to NetGalley for granting me a ARC copy of this book。 Sadly, I couldn't get into it。 This is supposed to be Feehan's murder novel - or at least that's what it was advertised as。 To me it felt like someone else wrote it entirely。 I had just read Feehan's Shadow Storm - and literally the writing is almost completely different。 The only aha moment I had was when the main character was describing her friends; and they always seem to be the smartest, and the best at everything they do DNF - Thank you to NetGalley for granting me a ARC copy of this book。 Sadly, I couldn't get into it。 This is supposed to be Feehan's murder novel - or at least that's what it was advertised as。 To me it felt like someone else wrote it entirely。 I had just read Feehan's Shadow Storm - and literally the writing is almost completely different。 The only aha moment I had was when the main character was describing her friends; and they always seem to be the smartest, and the best at everything they do。 I read different genres and didn't mind the change of style, but the story got waaaaay to foggy for me to enjoy。 I liked the summary but when it got down to the nitty gritty the book fell flat。The FL seems to be a serial killer magnet。 The ML is a mystery ****more to come once I finish**** 。。。more

Christine Feehan is one of my go to authors。 Stella form part of a "sisterhood" group。 (Like the Drake sisters and Earth bound series)。 Each with their tragic past。 Sam is the strong silent type。 No explicit sex scenes。 Unfortunately I found parts of the text repetitive and unnecessary。 The plot is good but I found the book to be too slow。 Christine Feehan is one of my go to authors。 Stella form part of a "sisterhood" group。 (Like the Drake sisters and Earth bound series)。 Each with their tragic past。 Sam is the strong silent type。 No explicit sex scenes。 Unfortunately I found parts of the text repetitive and unnecessary。 The plot is good but I found the book to be too slow。 。。。more

It just felt a bit “off”。 Stella was easy to like, as was Sam – despite his quiet and almost stalkerish behavior – I liked him。 They make a good and believable couple。 There wasn’t a romantic/relationship build in this book, and the physical encounters were behind doors。 It is a decent mystery, but it left me wanting。*Review copy provided by Penguin in exchange for an honest review。~*~*~*~Kindle https://amzn。to/3xZDyLR 。。。more

Mystery/ThrillerI enjoyed this mystery。 About halfway through the book I knew the identity of the killer。 That was a little disappointing, but also typical for me。 The one thing I really missed was love scenes。 Feehan writes the best love scenes and I hated that this read was completely absent of even one。

I have been a long-time lover of Christine Feehan。 I have started reading her books in my early 20's and my love of her writing style has not stopped me from enjoying any one of her books。 Including the amount of different series, she has written。The fact that she wrote a murder mystery stand-alone book with a paranormal twist had me intrigued from the beginning。 It was set in Sunrise Lake the Sierra Mountains。 I loved how she described the setting and surroundings。 If this were a real place I w I have been a long-time lover of Christine Feehan。 I have started reading her books in my early 20's and my love of her writing style has not stopped me from enjoying any one of her books。 Including the amount of different series, she has written。The fact that she wrote a murder mystery stand-alone book with a paranormal twist had me intrigued from the beginning。 It was set in Sunrise Lake the Sierra Mountains。 I loved how she described the setting and surroundings。 If this were a real place I would want to visit someday。I liked the relationship between Stella and Sam and Baily her dog as the story developed。 Love her core group of friends all with their own story to tell。 Sam was an interesting character。 A military man with his own past and a skill set that could not be ignored because of his training he was the ultimate killing machine and tracker when he chose to be。 Also very protective towards Stella and her friends。What hooked me onto this book was the fact that Stella was the daughter of a serial killer (her father) and could see visions when she slept。 Now a killer haunts the town and starts to murder people with his own signature。 Each night Stella has visions of the different murders and each night they become more clear。I hope readers who love mysteries or who have read Christine Feehan pick up this book。 It was a refreshing surprise for me and I hope Feehan continues to write more books like this in the future。 I highly recomend this book。 。。。more

>Book Review – Murder at Sunrise Lake>I am an independent reviewer。 This book is a standalone mystery with an HEA。 The book has a lot of characters。 Main characters are Stella and her silent, but deadly handyman, Sam。 A little is told of Sam and Stella’s background, but it seemed to me more information is told regarding the backgrounds of the secondary characters。 Unless these characters will be in future books, I felt their background were too detailed and Stella and Sam’s background too vague。 >Book Review – Murder at Sunrise Lake>I am an independent reviewer。 This book is a standalone mystery with an HEA。 The book has a lot of characters。 Main characters are Stella and her silent, but deadly handyman, Sam。 A little is told of Sam and Stella’s background, but it seemed to me more information is told regarding the backgrounds of the secondary characters。 Unless these characters will be in future books, I felt their background were too detailed and Stella and Sam’s background too vague。 Stella dreams of serial killers before the kill。 Her dad was a killer and a man while she was in college。 No detail was given on her college years。>There is a paranormal element to Stella and Sam seems to accept it right away。 He seems to be sensitive to paranormal activity, but his abilities, beyond the lethal, were never specified。 The mystery was a good one, with plenty of stalking and suspense。 The addition of Sam’s father in the picture adds a whole other layer of danger, as Sam’s dad is a mob boss。 That story line is abandoned after it is introduced。>This book is appropriate for an adult audience。 There aren’t any erotic scenes though。 The romantic scenes between Sam and Stella fade to black after a few kisses, creating very little chemistry between them。 I am giving this book 4 stars。 I wanted more romance and the knowledge of more books to come as an explanation as to why a lot of information in this story was introduced, but not used。 。。。more

Overall a good book。 I’m not sure it was Feehan at her best, I didn’t devour it like I typically do, but enjoyable。 It’s pretty clear this is going to turn into a new series。 I’ll keep reading。 If it wasn’t Feehan, probably would have gotten 5 stars, she just sets a high bar。I will add it wasn’t full of over the top sex scenes like so many of hers have been of late。 I did appreciate that。
